Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food

Dejan Židan

Born 16 October 1967

PhD in Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Faculty, University of Ljubljana
MBA, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Maribor

Dejan Židan has served as a minister since 2010, when he assumed the post of Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food; in 2013 he became the Minister of Agriculture and the Environment. In 2011, between both terms, he was elected to the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, where he chaired the Committee for Agriculture, Forestry, Food and the Environment. Together with his colleagues, he wants to build a vision of Slovenian agriculture which forms the basis of the country’s food security and, together with forestry and fishery, also the economic vitality of the countryside. His priority will be to facilitate activities that sustainably improve the competitiveness of Slovenian agriculture and strengthen relations and partnerships between the players along the food supply chain and the forest-wood chain.
