Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food

Aleksandra Pivec

born 26 March 1972

holds a doctorate in chemical engineering


A graduate of the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, where she also gained her doctorate in chemical engineering on the topic of optimisation of the wine fermentation processes. She began her professional career as a junior researcher at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology in Ljubljana ad as a research associate at the Bistra Ptuj Science and Research Centre, where she worked for 17 years, serving as director for six years. She worked in the area of strategic planning of regional development and rural development, focused on the regional development of the Podrava statistical region. 


She worked actively in the preparation and management of international and national projects, of scientific and professional publications and in helping to protect intellectual property rights. She gained her rich working and professional experience principally in the fields of regional development, rural development, the professional field of developing new products and technologies and transfer of technologies, as well as in the area of drawing on European funds and effective preparation of projects. 


From September 2016 she was employed at the Government Office for Slovenians Abroad, and from July 2017 as State Secretary in that office. She is in charge of the area of development and assistance in linking development interests and activities among Slovenians living over the border and around the world and the homeland and kin in Slovenia in the areas of culture, education, business, youth and cooperation within the EU.
