Main Areas of Activity

The Institute of Macroeconomic Analysis and Development (IMAD) is an independent government office working in the fields of economic and social policies, developmental strategies and policies and other tools for analysis and forecasting, international cooperation and economic integration.

The Institute performs the following tasks:

  • monitoring, analysing, and evaluating current trends and projecting economic, social, and environmental development;
  • preparing forecasts of macroeconomic aggregates;
  • performing analyses that serve as a basis for the formulation of economic and development policies and measures;
  • research activities.

The IMAD also publishes periodicals in Slovene and English. Twice a year, the IMAD prepares forecasts for the main macroeconomic aggregates for the current and following two years, together with a scenario for the three years beyond that. These publications are called Spring and Autumn Forecasts of Economic Trends. The forecasts and scenario include an estimate of the main risks to their realisation and alternative forecasts in the event that these risks materialise. The monthly Slovenian Economic Mirror presents current economic developments. The Development Report evaluates Slovenia’s performance and capacity for sustainable development as defined by Slovenia’s Development Strategy. The Social Overview analyses the quality of development from the viewpoint of human and social development. The IB Review addresses the methodological issues of sustainable development. The Working Papers series presents the current work of researchers and in-depth analyses of selected issues. Other research results are occasionally published as part of the book series ‘Analysis, Research and Development’. In 2007, the IMAD published a new annual report Economic Issues that analyses key macroeconomic and fiscal developments and address other current economic policy issues.
