Ljubica Jelušič, was born on 16 June 1960 in Koper. In 1985 she graduated cum laude in international relations and defence studies at the then Faculty of Sociology, Political Sciences and Journalism. She earned her MSc within the framework of the '2000 new researchers' project and her PhD in defence studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Ljubljana. She completed her post-doctoral studies in military sociology at the Royal Military Academy in Belgium between 1993 and 1994.
She has been employed at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Ljubljana since 1985 – first as a researcher, then as an Assistant and Associate Professor. She has been Full Professor for Defence Studies since 2005. She has co-operated with the Slovenian Armed Forces on military development and training at the level of senior and general staff. At the Faculty of Social Sciences she was Vice-Dean for Research, Head of the Defence Studies Department and a member of the Faculty's Senate. As a researcher at the Defence Research Centre she headed several basic and applied research projects in the areas of civil-military relations, defence restructuring, peacekeeping and the role and management of human factor in the army.
She led the international research working group of the A10 project within COST at the European Commission. She is Executive Secretary of the RC01 Armed Forces and Conflict Resolution at the ISA and a member of the international Advisory Board of the Geneva Centre for Democratic Control over the Armed Forces (DCAF). She heads the working group Warriors in Peacekeeping at the European Research Group on Military and Society ERGOMAS. She is a member of the social research panel Human and Societal Dynamics within the NATO Science for Peace programme. When she was a student of defence studies she completed her military service and acquired the rank of Second Lieutenant.

Uroš Krek was born on 30 August 1966. In 1991 he graduated from defence studies at the then Faculty of Sociology, Political Science and Journalism (FSPN) in Ljubljana. He was educated in the United States of America, completing in 1996 a senior defence resourse planning course at the Naval Postgraduate School, in 1999; a senior executive course at the George Marshall Center in the Federal Republic of Germany; and in 2001 he obtained his master's degree in national security from the National Defence University in the USA. He has been a doctoral candidate in strategic planning since 2007.
Between 1991 and 1993, he was employed at the Ministry of Defence, where he worked as an adviser and headed the Department for Territorial Defence Organisation. He participated in the 1991 war for independence. Between 1993 and 1995, he was head of the Territorial Defence Development Department; between 1995 and 1997 he was director of the Department for Development; between 1997 and 1999 director of the Department for Armaments, and then a coordinator for the NATO membership Action Plan. In 2001, he became director of the Defence Policy Department, and between 2003 and 2005 he worked as acting Director-General of the Directorate of Defence Policy. In 2005, he was employed as an advisor for defence preparation at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology where, between 2006 and 2008, he also worked as a coordinator for Slovenia's EU Presidency.
He has gained considerable professional experience as deputy chair of Slovenia's NATO membership negotiation team, head of the working group for NATO membership at the Ministry of Defence, and head of the group for strategic defence review. He also served as chairman of a government commission for the control of arms exports, and held strategy courses at the general staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF). Mr Krek has a rank a Lieutenant Colonel in reserve, and has also received a number of decorations, including the Order of the Slovenian Armed Forces, and the Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals of the Slovenian Armed Forces.

The Inspectorate of the RS for Protection against Natural and other Disasters has 13 branches: Celje, Radovljica, Koper, Ljubljana, Maribor, Murska Sobota, Nova Gorica, Novo mesto, Krško, Postojna, Ptuj, Slovenj Gradec and Trbovlje.
The Inspectorate ensures the unified enforcement of regulations and carries out inspection supervision for the enforcement of regulations on protection against natural and other disasters.
