Main Areas of Activity

The Ministry of Economic Development and Technology performs tasks concerning the economic system and development, the domestic market, technical legislation and criteria, consumer protection, the protection of competition, economic relations with foreign countries, the development of the business sector and competitiveness, intellectual property, the development of small enterprises and tourism and industry projects; tasks regarding regional development and European cohesion policy, and tasks concerning technology, metrology and the postal service.

The Market Inspectorate of the Republic of Slovenia is responsible for surveillance of the implementation of laws and implementing regulations in the areas of consumer protection, trading in goods and services on the domestic market for which it is competent.

The Slovenian Intellectual Property Office carries out tasks in the area of intellectual property, including copyright law and industrial property law. In addition to its administrative tasks, it also drafts legislation in the area of intellectual property and represents the Government in management bodies of the World Organisation for Intellectual Property and in the Council for TRIP within the World Trade Organisation. The Office also provides information services.

The Office also includes a conciliation committee settling disputes between employers and employees relating to intellectual property rights during employment.

As a national metrology institution, the Metrology Institute of the Republic of Slovenia establishes and leads the national metrology system of the Republic of Slovenia, including the field of precious metal articles, and procedures within the scope of the Slovenian Business Excellence Prize. It represents these systems in the corresponding international organisations, and develops them in an internationally comparable and recognisable way.
