Mitja Gaspari was born on 25 November 1951 in Ljubljana. In 1975, he graduated in ‘financial and monetary economics from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Ljubljana. He earned his MSc in monetary economics at the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade. He began his career at the Bank of Slovenia where he first worked as an analyst in 1981 and then as the Director of the Analysis and Research Centre. In 1987 he became Deputy Governor of the Bank of Slovenia and then Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Yugoslavia. In September 1991 he went to work for the World Bank in Washington D.C. for a year. He worked as a Senior Financial Economist in the Trade & Finance Division, Technical Department and the Europe & USSR Region. Between 1992 and 2000 he was Minister of Finance of the Republic of Slovenia. In the autumn of 2000 he was elected an MP, but gave up his seat in April 2001 to become Governor of the Bank of Slovenia. During his mandate Slovenia successfully introduced the euro as the country’s currency. He has written several articles for international journals and publications and participated in numerous debates and conferences. Before he became Minister for Development and European Affairs, he worked at the Economic Institute of the Law School.

The Slovenian Intellectual Property Office carries out proceedings in the field of intellectual property rights, namely proceedings for the grant of patents and supplementary protection certificates, proceedings for the registration of trademarks, industrial designs, topographies of integrated circuits and geographical indications, with exception of those relating to agricultural products, foodstuffs, and vines and other grape and wine products. In the field of copyright, it has competence to issue authorisations to organisations for collective management of authors’ and related rights, and to supervise the operation of such organisations.
In addition to these administrative tasks, the Office also prepares legal regulations in the field of intellectual property, and represents the Slovenian Government, in accordance with adopted positions, in the bodies of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and the European Patent Organisation (EPO), as well as in intellectual property working parties of the EU Council, European Commission and OHIM - Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (Trade Marks and Designs).
The Office also provides a number of information services, and performs administrative tasks for the Conciliation Board which solves disputes between employers and employees that concern inventions created during employment, and for the Copyright Board.

The Slovene Enterprise Fund is a central public finance institution established as a public financial fund on the basis of the Public Funds Act by the government of the Republic of Slovenia to improve access to financial sources for small and medium-sized companies.

Slovenian Accreditation (SA) is a national accreditation institution which establishes and maintains an unbiased and independent system of accreditation in line with the SIST EN ISO/IEC 17011:2004 standard, thereby facilitating the transparency and credibility of accredited bodies for conformity assessment, such as calibration and testing laboratories, and certifying and control bodies.
