The Government adopted the draft Social Assistance Benefits Act and sent it to the National Assembly for discussion under summary procedure. The draft amendment of the Social Assistance Benefits Act increases the minimum income (monetary social assistance) from EUR 297.53 to EUR 331.26 per month, which amounts to 75% of the minimum cost of living. The amount represents an 11.34% increase. The ministry has proposed the new Social Assistance Benefits Act in order to increase the social security limit for single persons and childless couples, and to maintain that level for certain groups of individuals and families. The annual financial consequences will amount to around EUR 18 million.


The Government earmarked EUR 4.4 million in additional funds for the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport. The additional funds will provide part of the urgently needed funding in order to stabilise the situation regarding research and development.


The Government also adopted the Programme for the elimination of the consequences of direct material damage due to the flooding on 27 and 28 April 2017. In 2018, funds from the budget reserve amounting to a total of EUR 18 million will be earmarked for the implementation of priority renovations, including: the renovation of water infrastructure facilities; the renovation of municipal infrastructure and public buildings and the reimbursement of excess funds; the implementation of geotechnical measures; the co-financing of the renovation of apartment buildings owned by private law entities; and the renovation of structures of special importance (cultural monuments).
