MFA statement on withdrawal of Croatian government decisions

Ljubljana - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the information that the Government of the Republic of Croatia at its session withdrew the conclusions adopted on 19 April 2012 regarding the position in relation with the legal proceedings of banks Zagrebacka banka dd and Privredna banka Zagreb against LB d.d. and NLB d.d. Minister of Foreign Affairs Karl Erjavec today received a letter from the Croatian colleague Vesna Pusić.

Position of the Republic of Slovenia regarding the issues concerned are well known – Slovenia perceives the issue of guarantees for foreign currency deposits as a succession issue, which is regulated by Article 7 of Annex C to the Agreement on Succession Issues.

The Agreement on Succession Issues stipulates that the successor states negotiate the issue of assuming the guarantees for foreign currency deposits under the auspices of the Bank for International Settlements in Basel (BIS).

Slovenia expects that these acts are a step in the right direction and that the Republic of Croatia as a successor state under the Agreement on Succession Issues, will apply its provisions consistently, in good faith and in accordance with international law.
