Slovenia is one of the EU Member States with the highest economic growth. In the third quarter of 2016, the economic growth was considerably higher than the Euro zone average, considering the year-over-year comparison. Gross domestic product in the third quarter of 2016 was by 2.7% higher than in the third quarter of 2015, while the growth rate amounted to 2.6% in the first three quarters of this year. The situation in the labour market continues to improve in the current favourable economic conditions. In the first quarter of 2016, the employment rate increased by 2.1%, similar to the previous quarter when the growth was 2%.

The Ministry of Finance remains committed to maintaining the existing trends and continuing with the gradual consolidation of public finances. “I believe a stable fiscal environment is the basis for a stable business environment that can contribute to investment growth, the creation of new jobs and further development,” pointed out Minister of Finance Mateja Vraničar Erman.

In its latest forecast for Slovenia, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development predicted economic growth rate of 2%, a decrease in unemployment rate and a decrease in general government debt. The latter is expected to drop to 2.4% of GDP this year, to 1.6% of GDP in 2017, and to 0.9% of GDP in 2018.
