    At today’s regular session, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia discussed additional measures targeting wages and other labour costs in the public sector in order to achieve greater fiscal balance from 1 June 2013 to 31 December 2014. The agreement was reached via intensive negotiations with public sector unions, and approved and initialled by representatives on Tuesday, 14 May 2013. It will enable the implementation of measures targeting the public sector, which are also included in the Stability Programme, which the Government forwarded to the European Commission last week.

    At today's session, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia adopted the National Reform Programme for 2013-2014 and the Stability Programme 2013. The Government approved the draft text of the decision of the National Assembly approving the disposal of investments of the Republic of Slovenia, the pension fund KAD, the compensation company SOD, Modra zavarovalnica insurance company, DSU management and consultancy company and the PDP financial holding company.

    At today's session, the Government approved the draft text of the Act Amending the Financial Operations, Insolvency Proceedings and Compulsory Dissolution Act. At its regular session, the Government also approved the draft Act Governing the Rescue and Restructuring Aid for Companies in Difficulty.

    PM Alenka Bratušek after the meeting with businessmen: "By encouraging the economic development, Slovenia may again become a success story"

    The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, today met with members of the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, members of the Manager's Association of Slovenia and representatives of the Association of Employers of Slovenia. The meeting was also attended by Stanko Stepišnik, Minister of Economic Development and Technology, Dejan Židan, Minister of Agriculture and the Environment, and State Secretaries Jernej Pavlič and Gašpar Gašpar Mišič.

    "It has been three weeks since the new government assumed office. In such a short period, it is impossible to correct all the errors committed in the past," said the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia in her introduction to the press conference, adding that the new cabinet could not reject what had already been done and start from scratch, as there is simply not enough time.

    President of European Commission Barroso: I am confident that Slovenia will rise to the challenge

    PM Alenka Bratušek stated after her first meeting with the President of European Commission José Manuel Barroso that Slovenia would continue with adopting measures that would maintain the stability of the country. Among them the PM pointed out stabilisation of banking system saying that Slovenia could deal with most of bad assets through the bad bank in June. President of European Commission José Manuel Barroso said after the meeting that Slovenia was facing a very demanding task and expressed his feeling of confidence that Slovenia would rise to the challenge.

    PM Alenka Bratušek: ”Bank Deposits in our Banks are Safe”

    Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek told Parliament in a Q&A session that her government would continue with the good measures started by the previous government – restructuring and stabilising the banking system, the state assets management and fiscal consolidation. In addition to already started measures, the government will also enhance the measures that had been neglected by kick-starting the economy and strive to create new jobs. PM Bratušek stressed the comparisons with Cyprus are “unnecessary and inappropriate” and bank deposits are safe. “There is no need to panic,” she added.

    The Government of the Republic of Slovenia already met today for its first i.e. constitutive meeting. They made several personnel appointments, including Tanja Šarabon as the Government Secretary General, and founded government working bodies. The members of the cabinet were informed of the state of the National Budget.

    The new Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek took over most current affairs from outgoing Prime Minister Janez Janša. She also thanked the former Prime Minister for all the good his government had done for Slovenia and stated in her press release that her government would do its best to continue good projects that has already been started.
